Known Issue: Return from FMLA Leave of Absence Error

July 9, 2018

Please note:
This Known Issue has been resolved. For more details see this News article.

HR Partners and Academic Partners may encounter an error in Workday when attempting to return workers from FMLA approved leaves of absence. When attempting to initiate a “Return Worker from Leave,” users can receive the following error message: “Currently you do not have any outstanding absences for which you can request a return.” This restriction is due to security settings presently in place to ensure only Absence Office Partners can access FMLA approved leave types. Only individuals in central offices who review Leave of Absence documentation to determine FMLA eligibility are given the Absence Office Partner role.

The ISC is actively working on resolving this issue. In the meantime, if you are being prevented from returning a worker from leave, please send an email to with the subject line “Return from FMLA Leave.” We will take care of any leave returns that you are unable to complete on your own.
