“WA Cares Fund” Paycheck Deductions Start This January

Starting in January 2022, all employees in the state of Washington will begin paying premiums via paycheck deductions to the WA Cares Fund, a new long-term care insurance benefit that, beginning in January 2025, can be used to purchase long-term care services and support.

Some employees who already have long-term care insurance as of November 1, 2021 can apply for a permanent exemption to this mandatory tax between October 1 – December 31, 2022 by contacting the Washington State’s Employment Security Department (ESD).

To apply for an exemption, follow the guidance on the WA Cares Fund Exemptions page.

Once you have your approved exemption from the ESD, let the ISC know by completing the WA Cares Exemption Approval Submission form.
